I run a small private practice from my home in Kingswood, Cheshire and run workshops - topics ranging from "Increasing Self Confidence"; "Stress Management"; "Methods of Relaxation" to "Surviving Bereavement".
I have worked, on a voluntary basis, at an Addiction Therapy Centre both 1:1 with clients and in Group Therapy. I became disabled 7 years ago (cervical dystonia) but this has not deterred me from counselling – a career that is not just a job but my passion. I feel my disability has made me a stronger and more empathic individual. My "internal vocabulary" has changed in a positive sense - the word "problem" has become "challenge".
This is something I try and impress on my clients, that no matter what our circumstances may be - either physical or psychological - we CAN improve our own life quality but there is a need to be proactive in this. Sometimes, it can mean making physical changes or it can be learning how to look/deal with a situation in a different, more "life friendly" way.
7 years in Primary Care. At present - and for the past 4 years - working as a senior counsellor for an NHS Psychological Service in a large north Liverpool medical practice.
